Assistant Professor Ana Marija Dunaj, PhD, from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies held the fifth workshop within the DIGI-HR project – Dimensions of Digital Inclusion and Exclusion in Croatian Society – on Thursday, 29 October 2026, on the topic of using the e-Citizens system services. The workshop was held at the ZAC HUB of the Zagreb Centre for Independent Living and was aimed at developing the digital skills of persons with disabilities, with an emphasis on more independent use of public services.
In the introductory part, Dunaj explained to participants how and why the e-Citizens system was created, its purpose and the possibilities it offers in everyday life. She presented the available groups of services and ways of accessing the system, with special attention paid to the Health Portal and access to digital health services.
The workshop was conducted interactively, with questions, exchange of experiences and practical examples tailored to the participants' needs. An electronic identity card was activated together, through which participants learned the concrete steps of activation and the use of a card reader. The importance of secure use of digital identity and the protection of personal data was emphasised.
By combining explanations with practical work, the workshop aimed to strengthen participants' confidence and independence in using digital services. The collaboration between the Department of Sociology and the Zagreb Centre for Independent Living thus contributes to efforts to reduce barriers to digital inclusion and to make it easier for persons with disabilities to access information and exercise their rights.
The topic of using the e-Citizens system will continue at the next workshop, with further practical work and an introduction to services according to the participants' interests and needs.
