First DIGI-HR project workshop held: Artificial intelligence supporting digital inclusion

Users of the Zagreb Centre for Independent Living developed digital skills and explored potential applications of artificial intelligence

On Wednesday, 17 June 2026, the Zagreb Centre for Independent Living hosted the first workshop within the institutional project ‘Dimensions of Digital Inclusion and Exclusion in Croatian Society (DIGI-HR)’, conducted by the Faculty of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb. Some of the project activities involve collaboration with the Zagreb Centre for Independent Living.

The collaboration focuses on developing digital skills, promoting social inclusion and reducing the digital divide among vulnerable groups in society. The cooperation agreement provides for educational, research and professional activities aimed at developing digital literacy and including people with disabilities in digital society.

The first workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Erik Brezovec, PhD, from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, on the use of artificial intelligence in everyday life, education and work. During the workshop, participants learnt how large language models work, explored the possibilities offered by contemporary AI tools and discovered practical applications in various personal and professional situations.

Particular attention was paid to formulating effective queries for artificial intelligence tools, or prompting, a key prerequisite for using AI systems effectively. Through practical examples, participants explored the capabilities of Google One AI Premium, Gemini and Lovable and discussed their use in learning, communication, organising work and everyday activities. The importance of using artificial intelligence responsibly and safely was also emphasised, particularly in relation to protecting personal data, checking the credibility of information and addressing the ethical challenges posed by new technologies.

Workshop participants actively joined the discussion, asked questions and explored potential uses of artificial intelligence in everyday life through practical exercises. Their positive feedback confirms the value of this kind of training, with one participant commenting afterwards that the lecture had been highly instructive and informative.

The DIGI-HR project continues to deliver educational activities promoting digital inclusion and the development of skills needed for active participation in contemporary society. The next workshop will take place on Wednesday, 24 June, led by Assistant Professor Ana Marija Dunaj, PhD, from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies. Its theme will be ‘Social networks and digital communication – how to communicate safely, responsibly and effectively on Facebook’.
