Second DIGI-HR project workshop held: Social media and digital communication

Strong interest among users in learning about safe and responsible social media use and effective communication on Facebook

On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, the Zagreb Centre for Independent Living hosted the second educational workshop within the institutional project “Dimensions of Digital Inclusion and Exclusion in Croatian Society (DIGI-HR)”, conducted by the Faculty of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb. Some project activities focus on developing the digital competences of users of the Zagreb Centre for Independent Living, enabling them to participate more actively and safely in digital society.

The workshop entitled “Social Media and Digital Communication – How to Communicate Safely, Responsibly and Effectively on Facebook” was delivered by Ana Marija Dunaj, PhD, from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies.

The workshop attracted considerable interest from users, who actively joined the discussion, asked numerous questions about social media use and the challenges of digital communication, and shared their own experiences and examples from everyday online communication.

The lecture began with an overview of the development of social media – from its beginnings to its current role in everyday life. Participants learned why Facebook remains the world’s largest social network despite the emergence of numerous new platforms, and why it continues to play an important role in connecting different generations and local communities.

The workshop placed particular emphasis on responsible and safe social media use, identifying high-quality and credible information, and the basic principles of writing successful social media posts. Through practical examples, participants discussed everyday situations they encounter in digital environments and received practical tips for safer, more responsible and more effective communication online.

DIGI-HR continues to deliver educational activities promoting digital literacy, digital competence development and the active inclusion of citizens at risk of digital exclusion in contemporary digital society. The next workshop is planned for July.
